About Cedar Grove

Dubbed “Beautiful Suburbia” by the Star Ledger, Cedar Grove just celebrated in Centennial in 2008. It is very rich in history and is an environmentally active community. It was originally a small farming community that has evolved into a much sought after place to live among the New Jersey suburbs outside of Manhattan. In 2008, New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked it the 17th best community to live in New Jersey, and 4th in Essex County.

Cedar Grove is 4.3 square miles in size and has a population of over twelve-thousand. It has a very unusual amount of beautiful protected land for public use. The community borders Caldwell, Montclair, Little Falls and Verona, New Jersey and, like them, is nestled in the Watchung Mountain range.

Cedar Grove’s very highly regarded public school district has two elementary schools (North End and South end), Cedar Grove middle school (grades 5-8), and Cedar Grove High School. Their mission statement is, “Close Enough to Care, Bold Enough to Dare”. Cedar Grove also offers choices in private and parochial education.

The mission statement of the very active Cedar Grove Education Foundation’s (CGEF - which does so much including offering scholarships) is to enrich and enhance the educational experiences of Cedar Grove students above and beyond the scope of the regular curriculum and to provide lifelong learning opportunities for the entire community.
