“The Forest Avenue Primary School is an early childhood learning community serving the needs of 270 children in grades pre-kindergarten through second. Our school philosophy embraces each child entering school and recognizes his or her unique needs, abilities, aptitudes, and interests. A creative, caring, and competent professional staff encourages every child to learn, grow, and flourish within a challenging yet supportive environment. Children develop positive self-esteem coupled with a love for learning, acquisition of knowledge, and problem solving skills.
The Character Education Program focuses on monthly themes in the areas of responsibility, self-worth, compassion, respect, and honesty. The Social Decision Making Program in kindergarten through grade two teaches students to be able to react positively to each other by increasing students' self-esteem, promoting appreciation of diversity, improving communication skills, and preventing escalation of disciplinary problems. Field Day allows students to participate in athletic activities in groups encompassing all grade levels. We also enjoy such whole school traditions as Healthy Breakfast Day, Read Across America, Forest Avenue Variety Show, and Red Ribbon Week.”

“The major goal of the Linden Avenue Elementary School is to provide all students with a love of learning in a stimulating, caring, safe educational setting which will ensure that each child meets his/her fullest potential.
Students are taught by a group of caring professionals who teach the whole child. Well versed in the rigorous core curricular offerings, which are discussed in much more detail and can be accessed by clicking on the “curriculum” link to the left, teachers use Macmillan/McGraw-Hill’s Treasures program for reading and language arts and the Everyday Mathematics program created at the University of Chicago. Both programs have been well researched to provide students a sound foundation in both reading and math.
In order to promote healthy choices and positive decision making, personal responsibility, self-worth, honesty and compassion, monthly character education themes are stressed. Teachers incorporate these themes into their curriculum, through direct instruction throughout the month and in conjunction with the Social Decision Making Program. By increasing the students’ self-esteem, promoting appreciation for diversity, improving communication skills, and preventing escalation of disciplinary problems, students are taught to react positively to each other.”

“Ridgewood Avenue School provides student-centered classrooms for youngsters in grades three through six. The school builds on the foundation skills learned in the primary schools, and through an authentic and hands-on approach, encourages students to love and take responsibility for their own learning.
Teachers take pride in displaying student work through creatively designed bulletin boards, which not only beautify the school, but also enhance the learning environment. The building itself is located in the heart of the Borough, close to the Public Library, Police Department, and Municipal Building. The school is listed on the State Historic Register. This charming turn of the century building houses the only auditorium in the district, and it is well utilized by both intra-district and outside theatre and musical performing groups.
In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum in the major disciplines of language arts literacy, mathematics, social studies, and science, students are exposed to art, instrumental and vocal music, physical education, health, and Spanish.
