About Verona, New Jersey
Verona is a beautiful, thriving and active
community (see photos by clicking on Town Photos
from home page) with unique named sections such
Afterglow, Wayland, Forest Ave, Fairway and Oakridge
- among others. It has a diverse stock of housing in
terms of style and size - from the very small to
stately and historic manor homes on gorgeous and
very large lots. There are many choices for condos,
especially in The Clairidge House and Ardleigh Mews.
Some townhome choices include Beacon Hill and the
exclusive Kip's Ridge which borders the property on
which historic Kip's Castle sits. The population of
Verona is under fourteen thousand and it is bordered
by Montclair, West Orange, Essex Fells, Caldwell and
Cedar Grove.
What's in Verona
The heart of Verona really centers around the
central business district on Bloomfield Avenue and
the magnificent, scenic Verona Park with graceful
lakes in the middle, playgrounds, and
strolling/jogging paths. There are wonderful
restaurants and shops in town as well as some truly
beautiful historic municipal buildings and schools.
Along with Montclair, Verona is home to the famous
Kip's Castle. It's a genuine castle, owned by Essex
County and open to the public. The property on which
it sits straddles the two communities. The family
operated Annin Flag is located in Verona, New Jersey
and is the oldest and largest flag company in the
United States. It was an Annin Flag that draped the
coffin of Abraham Lincoln and an Annin flag that was
selected by NASA to participate in the 1969 Apollo
11 mission to the moon.
Parks and Recreation
Again, the fantastic Verona Park is perhaps the
biggest outdoor recreation attraction in the area.
Comprising fifty-four acres, twin lakes and a
gorgeous stone walking bridge, children and adults
alike make great use of this amenity. (photos in
Town Photo section) For its beauty, couples come
from all over the state to be married in the park.
The thirteen acre lake can be used for boating or
fishing throughout the summer months. Concerts
abound during the warm weather as do craft shows and
festivals. Tennis courts grace the area and a 1.2
mile jogging course.
The Verona Community Center plays large role in
town and hosts a number of exciting events each year
including plays, dances, and public lectures. It has
a gym and ballroom as well as athletic fields. The
Verona Community Pool includes an Olympic sized
pool, water slides, a baby pool, a number of sports
facilities, and a snack bar.
Commuting From Verona
Located just a mile from I-280 and just three
miles from Route 80, Verona is a great location for
commuters who can take the bus to NYC's Port
Authority or drive a short way out Rte 280 to
Harrison, park and ride the train in from there. New
York Midtown Direct train service is available in
nearby Montclair, as well, although parking may be a
challenge for non-residents on weekdays.
Verona School System
The Verona Public School District is made up of
four elementary schools: Forest, Brookdale, Laning
and F.N. Brown. There is one middle school - H.B.
Whitehorne; and of course,Verona High School which
has been named among the top fifty high schools in
the state by NJ Monthly Magazine. There are many
private schools to choose from in the Verona and
Essex County area, as well.
