Essex County, New Jersey is made up of some of

Playhouse in nearby Millburn. There are dozens of
small theater companies, as well. Many New York

fair share of Olympians and professional athletes,
too. The New York Football Giant’s and the New

The Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange (next to Governor

pony rides, snack bars, outdoor picnic area and
playground.
The Montclair Art Museum is one of the most
influential museums in the state with recent
exhibits including Andrew Wyeth and Cezanne.
The county is also home to very prestigious
hospitals and universities including St. Barnabas
Medical Center (in the top 5% of hospitals in the
country), the acclaimed University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey, the Kessler Institute for
Rehabilitation - where patients come from across the
globe for treatment, Seton Hall University and
Montclair State University which was recently voted
#54 on Forbes Magazine’s 2009 list of Best Public
Colleges in the nation. There are myriad choices for
private preparatory schools, as well.
The physical aesthetic of Essex County town centers
is idyllic. Most of them have charming historic
villages for an incredible shopping and dining
